Brief Introduction to Kunmin

Located in central Yunnan, Kunming is the capital of the province and the forefront and portal for China to connect with Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East, South Europe, and Africa. The city stands at an altitude of 1,891 meters and covers an area of 21,473 km2, including 330 km2 of city proper. Thanks to its low-altitude high-plateau mountain monsoon climate, Kunming enjoys an annual average temperature of 15℃,2,200 hours of sunshine, over 240 frostless days and 1,000 mm of precipitation amount. There is neither freezing winter nor frizzling summer. Famous for its perennially blossoming and green spectacles, the city enjoys titles as the City of Eternal Spring and the City of Flowers. It is an ideal place for inhabitation, leisure, holidays and touring.

Kunming has a population of 7.2631 million, of which the Han people accounts for 86.16%. Populous ethnic minorities include Yi (441,000), Hui (152,000), and Bai (83,000).

As one of the leading economies in western China, Kunming has developed 5 pillar industries of tobacco, machinery electronics, bio-resources, information technology and business and tourism. With a time-honored history of over 2,200 years, Kunming is one of the first 24 famous historical and cultural cities listed by the State Council of China. There are famous scenic zones like spots, including Stone Forest World Geology Park, Dianchi Lake, Anning hot springs, Jiuxiang karst caves, Yangzonghai Lake, Jiaozi Snow-capped Mountain, and more than 100 major scenic spots like World Horticulture Expo Garden and Yunnan Nationalities Park, etc.
